Basic information
2021 Honda City e:HEV RS
Reason why I bought this car
My nature of work requires me to drive around 7,000km/month. Therefore, there are two major concerns for me when selecting my next car. First, is fuel economy, and second is whether the car is equipped with advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS).
Car selection Process
- I had a budget of: RM130,000
- Models I have considered include: Honda City
For a car that costs less than RM130,000 (1,000,000 Thai Baht converted into Malaysian Ringgit) to come equipped with advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), I sold on getting the 2021 Honda City e:HEV RS. Also, being a PHEV model, good fuel economy is another key factor for me to decide to get the Honda City.
User experience
Driving feel
The suspension, I think, is not different from the regular Honda City RS (although some people say that they can feel the difference). Overall, if compared to models of the same segment, the handling of the Honda City is OK. There are some body rolls but it is acceptable.
Fuel consumption
On highway drive, at speed around 80km/h, I get an average of about 26.4 km/l if I am at the wheel taking full control of the car. If I use ACC on the highway, here are the different fuel consumption results I get at various speeds:
- 80km/h = 26.9 km/l
- 90km/h = 26.3 km/l
- 95km/h = 26.2. Km/l
- 100km/h = numbers are not quite stable. But the average is about 21-22 km/l
- 105km/h = 20.2 km/l
- 110km/h = 19.8 km/l
- 120km/h = 19.1 km/l
In generals, if I drive the car at speed of below 100km/h, the power will come from the electric system mainly. If the car is going at speed of above 100km/h, the engine will kick in and run primarily; at the same time, the electric motor will aid and work alongside with the engine. The engine will not run along at all time in this car, the electric motor will always work either along or helping the engine to boost power. When the battery is at a certain level The instrument cluster will show an EV sign, meaning the electric motor helps. But the main drive will still be coming from the engine.
With a full tank of fuel, of around 80% highway and 20% city drive, I get 22.64 km/l of combined fuel economy.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL
- Brake assist system
- Lane Keeping (Lane Keeping Assist System)
- Quick acceleration, of around 9.6s 0-100
Cons
- The seat's cushion is made of pu leather + suede + fabric, which has a huge effect on people who sweat a lot.
- The side view mirror is a little narrow.
Summary
Overall, I enjoyed driving this car as it has great fuel economy and provides a good amount of driving comfort.
